A paved driveway is a good “best management practice” (BMP) because it prevents snow and rain run-off from a dirt driveway. Driveways become compacted over time, allowing stormwater to flush dirt off into surface waters. Also, vehicle tires pick up sediment from dirt driveways and track it on to the street surfaces, where it flushes the debris into storm drains and ultimately into the lake at the next rainstorm.
